1922-2008
Memorial services will be held Feb. 18 in Florida for longtime seasonal Leland resident Barbara Loftus who died Feb. 10. She was 85.
She was born Sept. 16, 1922, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Woodard G. and Doris E. Jeschke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Frank J. Loftus.
She graduated from Duke University where she was class president and later was an occupational therapist, working in the psychiatric division at Vaughan General Army Hospital. She and her husband raised their three children in Milwaukee, Wis., before retiring to Longboat Key, Fla., and Leland. She loved reading, music, tennis, and spending time at her home on Lake Leelanau.
She is survived by three daughters, Betsy (Alan) Fraker of Greenfield, Mass., Susan (Brian) Price of Maple City, and Nancy (Dan) Devine of Milton, Mass.; her sister, Elizabeth (Wayne) Montgomery of Asheville, N.C.,; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
