Sunday afternoon, includes several students between
the ages of 10 and 18.

The presentation of the ballet, which is based on the Classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, is by the Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre (NMBT). The ballet begins at 3 p.m. and will include a cast of 23 dancers, including several students between the ages of 10 and 18, and five adults in guest roles. Hansel and Gretel also features original choreography by Thomas Morrell, artistic director of the NMBT, with music from the Engelbert Humperdinck opera score of the same name.

The ballet tells the story of two Bavarian children who neglect their chores and are sent by their mother into the forest to collect berries for supper. While lost in the woods the children encounter the Sleep Fairy who comforts their fears, Guardian Angels who watch over their slumber, and a Dew Fairy who awakens them to a new day. The children, enticed by a gingerbread house, are trapped by a wicked witch but outsmart their foe and thrust her into the oven before she can bake them.
General admission tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 929-2787. Group rates are also available for purchases of 20 or more tickets.
