Salary resolutions totaling $2,450 in increased compensation for 2008-09 were adopted Tuesday by the Glen Arbor Township Board.
The board, at its monthly meeting this week, approved proposed salary increases for its officers and trustees based on the recommendation of the township wage and salary commission.
The commission met Jan. 10 and recommended the increases, which range from $100 to $1,150.
The largest single increase was for the clerk’s position occupied by Bonnie Quick. The committee recommended her salary increase from $29,250 to $30,400, a 3.6 percent hike. This includes a $500 stipend for health insurance. Also recommended for approval was an increase of similar size for supervisor John Soderholm. The $700 increase recommended would bring annual compensation for the post to $18,700.
Increases of 3.7 percent were recommended for township trustees in 2008-09, which would bring their pay to $2,700. The total includes a $100 stipend toward their health insurance coverage. The positions are occupied by Kent Kelly and Bill Thompson.
A 1.8 percent increase was recommended for the treasurer’s post, occupied by Terry Gretzema, which would increase his compensation from $26,000 to $26,500 annually.
Salary increases are one of several issues that will be discussed at the Annual Meeting of township inhabitants, scheduled this year for March 29. Barring any motions to the contrary, the salary resolutions will be adopted for the new budget year, which begins April 1.
Township wage and salary commissioners are charged with examining the workload for each official and determining whether it is in keeping with similar positions in the county. The commission includes board appointees Sandra Miller, Bill Freeman and Bruce Wagner.
In other business during the monthly meeting, the board approved the hiring of firefighter/paramedic Gary McGhee, who has been with the Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire Department for several years, most recently as administrator.
