Salary increases totaling $1,550 are being sought for two Solon Township officials based on resolutions adopted last week by the Township Board.
An $800 raise is being sought for the clerk’s position held by Shirley Mikowski for 2008-09, which would bring the annual salary for the post to $12,000. A $750 increase in pay for township treasurer Joan Gauthier is also sought, which would bring her annual salary to $12,710 next year.
No increase for township supervisor Carl "Ron" Williams is being sought, and no request for an increase of per diem for township trustees was made at the board’s regular Feb. 14 meeting. Barring any action from the audience at the township Annual Meeting, compensation for the supervisor will remain at the current level of $9,810. The trustees will continue to receive $80 per meeting.
Township board members will gather at 7 p.m. on March 19 at the fire station in Cedar to begin preparing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins April 1. The 2008-09 spending plan, and any related salary resolutions, will be reviewed and discussed at the Annual Meeting of township inhabitants scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 29 at the township hall.
In other business during the monthly meeting, board members voted to appoint Jim Panek to the township Board of Appeals to complete the unexpired term of Cora Cole, who cited health issues in stepping down last month. Cole’s term will expire in 2010, Mikowski said.
