ski meet Monday at Boyne Mountain were
(from left) Shannon McGovern, Sarah
Wiesen and Jack Kerby-Miller.

McGovern, a freshman at Suttons Bay, skied with the Glen Lake cooperative ski team this season. She completed her first run in 34.16 and second in 36.64 for a combined time of 1:10.80.

Samantha Henderson of Houghton/Hancock won the event with a combined time of 1:06.34.

In giant slalom (GS), McGovern had an eighth-place finish with a time of 59.55 after two nearly identical runs. Only one-one hundredth of a second separated the two times.

Also in the GS, Sarah Wiesen of Glen Arbor wrapped up her varsity career by placing 45th. Her combined time was 1:05.35.

Katherine Rowley of Charlevoix-East Jordan won the GS in 56.89.

Jack Kerby-Miller, the only male Laker to qualify for state competition, was disqualified.

Four skiers from the cooperative county ski team were voted to the “All Regional Ski Team” for outstanding finishes at the Regional meet. They included Eric Henry, Wiesen, McGovern, and Kerby-Miller.

Glen Lake coach Mark Fisher will lose four skiers to graduation, including Wiesen and Henry from Glen Lake, and Kody Herman and Molly Branson from Suttons Bay. The team’s future is still bright with a solid base of skiers returning. Kerby-Miller, a sophomore, and McGovern, a freshman, will likely be skiing next season. Also likely to return will be Abby Branson and Macy Henry from this year’s girls’ squad, and Peter Rennie, who had a strong debut season as a freshman.

In addition, two county skiers, who will be high school freshmen next year, qualified last weekend for the J3-Junior Olympic USSA Championships.
