The County Board's Interior Design subcommittee held an additional special meeting on Friday to discuss furniture, wall coverings and a dedication ceremony for the new Government Center in Suttons Bay Township.
Subcommittee chairman Mary Tonneberger, who represents District No. 4 on the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, reported that the subcommittee moved ahead last week on a plan for acquiring outdoor furniture for a deck outside the walkout lower level of the three-level Government Center.
She said requests for proposals to supply the outdoor furniture would be advertised in the near future. Furniture made of wood, wrought iron and recycled materials are being considered, Tonneberger said. She added that she hoped the subcommittee would be able to make a decision on outdoor furniture by mid-April.
Also, the subcommittee discussed details of a planned Sunday, May 18, dedication ceremony for the new facility, Tonneberger reported. She said a half-hour ceremony would likely be held just prior to an afternoon Open House at the Government Center. She said the Board of Commissioners would be presented a proposal regarding the May 18 event at the board’s executive committee meeting on Tuesday.
The Interior Design subcommittee last week also continued its discussion of wall decor in the new facility, Tonneberger said. She said the subcommittee would recommend that a large aerial photo of Leelanau County be acquired and placed on the wall directly behind commissioners’ seats in the Board of Commissioners meeting room. In addition, the committee has recommended that a large-scale photograph depicting the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore be acquired to adorn a wall in the meeting room.
The subcommittee is slated to meet again with committee volunteers Laura Quackenbush, Judy Egeler and Don Blumenschine on April 15 at 8 a.m. in the Government Center, Tonneberger said.
