A student from The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor will be among the participants in the third annual Poetry Out Loud state championship Saturday afternoon at the State Library of Michigan in Lansing.
Kathryn Elizabeth Little will represent The Leelanau School, one of 15 high schools that will take part in the poetry recitation competition. Her poetry teacher at the school is Norm Wheeler.
The winner will receive $200 and an all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete for the national championship April 28-29. The winner’s school will also receive a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry books.
Poetry Out Loud is presented by the Michigan Humanities Council, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Library of Michigan, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation.
