Omena is saddened by the loss of Glenn White, who died this past week in Marco Island, Fla. Glenn will be missed for his good nature and his warm smile. Throughout his illness, Glenn continued to live his life to the fullest, including swimming, fishing, and walking his dog Tucker. Omena and former Omena residents who attended Saturday’s memorial service in Florida were John and Mary Helen Ray, George and Annette Husted, Janet MacNeil, and Bob and Connie Martineau.

Don and Penny Valmassoi vacationed last week in Edisto, S.C., where they stayed at Egrets Point. Gayle and Jim Davis paid them a visit while they were there.

Carolyn and David Faught and their sons, Sam and Will, just returned from a five-day visit with Karen and Roger Edgley and family in Salt Lake City. While there, they skied and had a wonderful time.

It is a small world. On her trip back to Virginia last week, Charlotte Read bumped into Cathy Stephenson at the airport. Cathy was on her way to Aruba for some fun in the sun. You’ll also have to ask Charlotte about her new sport of deck jumping.

Bob and Julie Krist’s grandchildren from Framington Hills, Abbey and Ben Goshorn, ages 12 and 8, spent their winter break in Omena. Ben enjoyed snowboard lessons at Mt. Holiday while Abbey went tubing and rock climbing at the Northport School gym. They built a cardboard sled, which they entered in the Northport Winter Carnival. Their parents, Dustin and Jennifer Goshorn, arrived Friday to join the fun. Dustin and Ben participated in the curling competition, where they also saw Bob Lewis and his granddaughter, Samantha.

Dale and Liz Manty of Cheverly, Md., spent a few days in their Omena house enjoying the northern Michigan winter. Bob and Julie Krist and Walter and Bev Gaudette were their guests for a beer tasting and dinner. The next day, the Mantys and Krists skied the trails in Omena.

Bob and Ruth DeVrou, aided for a while by Bob Joyce, spent a good part of this past Sunday trying to help a wounded deer who was stuck in the ice in the marina. The deer finally took off around dusk, but was back Monday morning.

The next potluck is Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. in the community room at the Omena firehouse.

This weeks’ birthdays are Bette Coste, Dave Colling, and Electa Powell. Happy anniversary to Kanda and Harold McKee.
