Events showcase NMC's international students

Several events featuring Northwestern Michigan College's international students have been planned, including the sixth annual International Student Dinner on April 6.

First is a series of presentations by international students on their home countries. Each may include music, multi-media presentations and discussion. All will be held at noon at NMC in the Osterlin Building, room 202. The speakers are:

• Wednesday, March 12 — Brazil, by Elias de Andrade of Paulista Pe.

• Wednesday, March 19 — Israel, by Iris Agatstein of Haifa.

• Tuesday, March 25 — Germany/Kazakhstan, by Ludmila Baumtrok of Niedersachen, Germany.

• Tuesday, April 15 — Pohnpei, by Justin Thorington of Traverse City, who previously lived on the Micronesian island.

The sixth annual International Student Dinner, which supports scholarships for international students studying at NMC, is also planned for Wednesday, April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hagerty Center at NMC’s Great Lake campus. International students will help serve a buffet dinner of cuisine from their native countries. The Sun Radius Steel Pan Band will perform, and students will also showcase musical and dance entertainment typical in their home countries, including Brazil, Japan and Switzerland.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $7 for children 13 and under, and are available in NMC’s admission office (995-1054), the main campus welcome center, and at the door.
