Parenting Awareness Month programs offered

Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan is offering special programs and resources in honor of Parenting Awareness Month in March.

Informational discussions entitled When Sex is the Subject led by agency specialists will be held Wednesday, March 26 from noon to 1 p.m. at Planned Parenthood’s center in Traverse City.

When Sex is the Subject is geared toward parents of pre- and young teens. It focuses on communication between adolescents and their parents, with a goal of helping parents become the primary sexual educators of their children. The information parents will learn in the program is designed to help them have ongoing discussions with their children about puberty and sexuality, mixed messages in the media, peer pressure, and friendship. Information about normal adolescent development and behavior will also be shared.

The program is free and participants are welcome to bring a sack lunch. Registration is required by Friday, March 21 and may be completed by calling 929-2054, ext. 15.

Planned Parenthood’s Traverse City site is at 1135 E. Eighth St.
