James and Stella White of Hopewell, Va., celebrated their golden anniversary on Feb. 16 at a dinner and reception that was hosted by their family at the Hopewell Optimist Club.

James White met the former Stella Witkowski of Cedar while serving in the U.S. Air Force at Oscoda. They were united in marriage in Hopewell on Feb. 15, 1958. After serving eight years in the Air Force, Mr. White retired from Smirfitt-Stone Paper Co. with 28 years of service. Mrs. White worked for five years as a telephone operator at Michigan Bell, and Potomac Bell in Petersburg, Va. Later, she retired from Allied Signal Corp. in Chester, Va., with 25 years of service.

All of the couple’s children live in the surrounding area, including James (Cathy) White Jr., Robin (James) Harris, Dawn (Steve) McGuire, Ronald White, and Paula (John) Duncan. The couple also has 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
