Tykie, a well-preserved canine, celebrated his 24th birthday Saturday. Tykie has fared well during the past year, despite some normal wear and tear. He remains quite deaf and a little creaky in the joints.

The Suttons Bay Village Council flatly refused Monday to sponsor establishment of a “legal” boat mooring field off its coal dock in the southern end of Suttons Bay. Boaters who will no longer be allowed to moor their boats at the site are furious.

A former county building inspector has filed a lawsuit claiming that he was fired because of his hard stance of citing county contractors for violating state building codes. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages exceeding $25,000.

County Prosecutor James R. Williams prepared a directive to present to the County Board of Commissioners outlining steps that would need to be taken to form a new county tax allocation board.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved a $1,848,900 grant to the Village of Northport to help finance a $2.7 million sewer and water treatment system, U.S. Sen. Donald Riegle of Michigan announced yesterday afternoon.

Members of the senior class at Northport High School voted unanimously to sacrifice the “skip day” trip for which they had worked four years. Instead, they plan to contribute the $700 saved to the Leelanau Memorial Hospital at Northport.

Great Lakes property owners who have suffered beach and building damage within the past year from winds and waters found a silver lining when the U.S. Internal Revenue Service announced it would permit income tax deductions for damages.
