A time-honored tradition will continue next week when members of the Cedar Rod and Gun Club will clean, cook and serve thousands of pounds of smelt.
The 48th annual smelt dinner will be held Friday, April 4, at the Solon Township Hall in Cedar.
Members will clean cartons of commercially caught smelt next Thursday starting at 6 p.m. at the organization’s clubhouse off Sullivan Road between Cedar and Maple City.
Dinner will be served from 3-8 p.m.
The club’s Education Foundation will also be holding its annual Smelt Dinner Raffle. Prizes include Ruger, Stoeger and Henry firearms, a $200 gift certificate for spa services, charter fishing and a pheasant hunt.
