The Western Avenue Grill in Glen Arbor will become 100 percent smoke-free as of Tuesday, April 1.
Restaurant owner Bill Skolnick said customers were surveyed in advance of the decision, and supported the change.
“Prior to making the decision … we polled our customers to get reactions and predictably the response was overwhelmingly positive,” Skolnick said. “What was really surprising was that the smokers were also very supportive of the idea.”
Skolnick said a partition was built at the restaurant last year that separated the dinning room from the bar. He said the bar area, as well as the outdoor patio, will also be smoke-free.
Western Avenue Grill’s decision brings to 41 the number of Leelanau County bars and eating establishments that have gone smoke-free, said Lisa Danto, a Suttons Bay nurse and the coordinator of the Traverse Bay Area Tobacco Coalition.
