Across-the-board 3.8 percent salary increases for officers and trustees will be considered by township inhabitants at the Annual Meeting of Glen Arbor Township Saturday at the township hall.
The 10 a.m. meeting will feature a hearing on the proposed 2008-09 budget as well as updates on ongoing projects, including the municipal sewer study, construction of a public bathroom on the former site of the township fire hall, and fire department operations.
In salary resolutions adopted by board members last month, 3.8 percent increases in compensation were included as recommended by the township wage and salary commission. They will not be incorporated into the budget for the upcoming year unless support is received by those attending the Annual Meeting.
As proposed, Supervisor John Soderholm’s compensation will increase from $17,500 to $18,200. A $1,000 increase is proposed for Treasurer Terry Gretzema, which would bring pay for the post to $26,000.
Township Clerk Bonnie Quick would receive a $1,150 hike in pay which would bring her compensation to $29,900 in 2008-2009.
In addition, each officer would receive a $500 contribution toward the cost of health insurance.
Township trustees Kent Kelly and Bill Thompson have a $100 increase in their salary resolutions. If approved at the Annual Meeting, their salary will go from $2,500 to $2,600. Trustees also receive $100 apiece toward health benefits that are not covered by the township.
Less than $200 separates budgeted revenue from last fiscal year to the coming budget year. The current budget year that concludes March 31 called for $393,475 in anticipated revenue. The upcoming budget year, which begins April 1, includes $393,278 in income.
The 2007-08 spending plan called for $373,390 in expenses, with actual expenses to date totaling $306,164. Plans for 2008-2009 identify anticipated expenses at $359,616. That does not include $13,860 that will come to the township in the form of a state grant for an ongoing sewer study. Also not included is $25,000 in the township’s capital improvement fund, and $5,000 in expenses for the township public restroom project.
