Ninety-two 8th grade girls from all over the county gathered at the Leland Lodge for the 14th annual Zonta Club of Leelanau Career Exploration Day.

The day-long event last Wednesday, March 19, featured several presentations from female speakers focused on issues important to women of all ages.
Deborah Wyatt Fellows, publisher of Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine, spoke during a morning session entitled Follow Your Dream: Self-Esteem and Women. In addition, Suttons Bay middle school counselor Sarah Christensen quizzed the group on women in history.
Afternoon sessions featured roundtable presentations by women in 20 different occupations. They included environmental educator, corporate pilot, title insurance agent, firefighter/emergency medical technician, dental hygienist,entrepreneur, real estate appraiser, chef and health information technologist.
Alicia Classens, nurse practitioner with the Traverse Bay Area Youth Health and Wellness Center, talked about the importance of making healthy choices. And Christine Diana of the Inland Seas Education Association wrapped it up with a discussion about her organization and the Great Lakes.
Zonta International’s goal is to advance the status of women worldwide.
