Across-the-board salary increases averaging 3.8 percent for officers and trustees were approved Saturday at the Glen Arbor Township Annual Meeting.
Voice votes were unanimously supportive of salary hikes included in resolutions with the exception of one: a $700 increase for Supervisor John Soderholm. One person expressed a lone “nay” in the sea of “yeas” from the estimated attendance of 60. As proposed Soderholm’s compensation will increase from $17,500 to $18,200. A $1,000 increase for Treasurer Terry Gretzema brought his salary to $26,000. Clerk Bonnie Quick will be paid $29,900, up from $27,750 in 2007-2008.
Township trustees Kent Kelly and Bill Thompson will receive $100 each for the new fiscal year which began April 1, upping their pay to $2,600 annually.
The increases, along with the continuation of lump sum payments of $500 for officers and $100 for trustees as compensation for health insurance, were recommended by the township wage and salary committee.
They were included in a nearly $400,000 budget reviewed at Saturday’s Annual Meeting as well as the March meeting of the Township Board.
Less than $200 separates budget revenue from 2007-2008 to 2008-2009 budgets. The past fiscal year which concluded March 31 called for $393,475 in anticipated revenue. The current budget year, which began Tuesday, includes $393,278 in income.
The past spending plan called for $373,390 in expenses. Plans for 08-09 identified anticipated expenses at $359,616. Not included in the General Fund budget was $13,860 in the form of a state grant for an ongoing sewer study. Also not included is $25,000 in the township’s capital improvement fund and $5,000 in expenses for the township public restroom project.
