It's that time of year, National Poetry Month is here. Back in 1996, the Academy of American Poets set the date, April would be the month to read, write, and celebrate.

So, each year, just one time, You’ll get the Omena News in rhyme.
For snow that is renowned, the U.P. is where it’s found. Eric and Kristi Hallett and friends went for a stay, To snowmobile, party, and maybe see the Milky Way.

Boiling maple syrup kept Trish and Rick Bryan occupied, Aided at times with many friends by their side. An interesting fact that you might not know, Is that 650 to14 is the sap to syrup ratio.

Karen Maier, with her daughters Erin and Lauren, Came to visit her parents, Bruce and Mary Bowen. They spent their spring break having fun in the county, Shopping, dining, and enjoying Leelanau’s bounty.

Melissa Chenault came up from Texas, And met her architect over breakfast. A new addition just may be right, She’ll be back in two or three fortnights.

Marcia and Mike are up for spring break with daughter Alison Biskupski.From Chicago they came . . . oops, I can’t rhyme with that name.

This week there are a number of birthdays in town – Lauren Browning, Eric Hallett, Chico Luna, Debbie Bussey, Mary Tonneberger and Tony Brown.

Next week you’re not stuck, Tuesday, April 8 is potluck. It starts at six, and it goes till it ends, So, bring a dish and invite your friends.

Spring in Omena is coming on, Green grass appears in the lawn. Daffodils and crocuses bloom and thrive, The summer birds will soon arrive. The sun sends out its warming rays, And blossoms and mushrooms add richness to our days.

This is April in Omena.
