Elmwood Township has delayed a vote to continue helping provide funding support for the Traverse City Senior Center on behalf of its older residents until a meeting can be set up with Leelanau County officials.
The township paid $5,130 to the senior center a year ago, an amount allowing a reduction in membership costs to Elmwood residents from $35 to $14. Ninety-five Elmwood residents are members of the Traverse City Senior Center.
Elmwood officials are hoping the county will help fund the center given that such services are not found in Leelanau. The board took no vote at its meeting Tuesday on an invoice submitted by the City of Traverse City.
“We have a millage for senior services, and this is a service that is not provided by Leelanau County,” said supervisor Derith Smith.
Trustee Paul Walter concurred. “I want to support (the contribution). If that could help, that would be great.”
