A 2-session exploration of Alzheimer's disease and its effects will be offered by Northwestern Michigan College on April 24 and May 1.
The Thursday sessions will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Designed for personal and professional enrichment, the first week provides and introduction, viewing and debriefing of the award-wining film Away from Her guided by Chris Weiner, Northern Region Director of the Alzheimer’s Association.
In week two, a professional panel explores issues raised in the film, including personal and institutional ethics, family impact and response, and physiology of the disease. Panelists include Weiner, neuro-psychologist Dr. Paul Callaghan, long-term care nurse practitioner Kathy Gray, and Diane Keelan, former NMC faculty member. Cost is $49 ($41 for adults 62 and older in Grand Traverse County).
