Benzie Central’s girls topped the competition with 121 points. Glen Lake had 43 points and Frankfort 19.
Sophomore Dani Frost had a big day, capturing two of the Laker girls’ three individual first-place honors in field events. Frost was first in the shot put (31’, 91/2”) and discus, (81’, 7”).

Victoria Pecak posted the Lakers’ only running first with a top time of 13.98 seconds in the 100-meter dash. She was also a member of the winning 400-meter relay team that posted a time of 56.02 seconds. Other team members were Anna Brown, Abbie Christiansen and Lauren Garver.

Posting second-places for the Lakers were senior Trish Lootens with a throw of 27’, 31/2” in the shot put; Garver in the 100 behind Pecak with a time of 14.17 seconds; Anna Brown in the pole vault at 7’, 6”; Christiansen in the long jump 14’, 71/2”; and the 200 meter relay team of Amber Therrien, Nadine Gilmer, Bonnie Ricord and Whitney Weber in 11:31.

Taking third-place honors were Melissa Schopieray in the 100 (14.63), Ricord in the 800 (2:54.3), and
Therrien in the 1600 (6:20.5). Fourth-place finishes were posted by Gilmer in the 1600 (6:25.5) and Christiansen in the 200 (31.3).

“It was our second outdoor meet. The temperature was pretty good, but the breezy weather doesn’t help track folks,” coach Paul Christiansen said.

His team has yet to compete with all its members this season.

“Between spring break and (a group trip to Germany) and now, the (school) play … we haven’t had a full group yet,” he said. “People who coach in the fall and winter have a tough time in the spring. It’s pretty intense for six weeks.”

John Lee and Mike Keim earned Glen Lake’s only boys’ team points. Lee was second in the long jump with an effort of 17’, 101/2” and third in the 400 in 59.43. Keim was fourth in the 800 in 2:28.

The Lakers travel to Benzie County today for the Benzie Invitational and Saturday at the Frankfort Frostbite.

“We hope it doesn’t live up to its name,” Christiansen joked.
