Kingsley took first in both girls' and boys' track competition Tuesday in a 4-team meet that included athletes from Suttons Bay, Mesick and Buckley.
“It was so nice to run a track meet in ‘normal’ spring weather,” Suttons Bay coach Mark Smith said. “High head winds slowed all the runners, but we had a lot of good efforts and are excited about going down to Onekema for their Frostbite Invitational Friday.”
The Norsemen posted five first-place finishes in running events, including freshman Kira Shivley, who tied for first in the 100 (14.51); Erin Sneed in the 400 (1:05:66); Alyssa Korson in the 300 hurdles (52.23); and distance runner Breanna Korson in the 1600 (5:47) and 3200 (12:27). Caleigh Lennerth was second in the 300 hurdles (54.38) and 100 hurdles (19.73).
Leading Suttons Bay in field events were Elizabeth Adams, with a second in pole vault (6’, 6”); Breanna Korson, third in the pole vault; and Kelly Kerr and Kelsay Collins, who tied for third in the high jump (4’6”).
Suttons Bay’s boys’ team was lead by Ben Wynsma with a first in the 1600-meter run (4:55.53). He was also part of the winning 3200-meter relay team that included Juan Reyes, Collin Brazeau and Tom Pritz (9:26.53). In other running events, third-place finishes came from Norsemen Jesse Bunker in the 110 hurdles (18.60), Nick Porritt in the 100 (12.24) and 200 (24.74), and Travis Smith in the 800 (2:25.79).
In field events, Suttons Bay’s Nalen Brockman was first in the high jump (5’10”) and Dwuan Anderson placed third (5’6”), Collin Gaudard was second in the pole vault (10’), Josh Ackerman was third (9’6”) and Smith fourth (9’).
The Norse’s meet at Onekama April 10 was canceled because of flooded track conditions, coach Smith said.
