Services have been held in Indiana for William Snowden of Suttons Bay who died April 9 at the Tendercare Health Center of Leelanau. He was 86.
He was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Deckerville, the son of John and Hattie (Colgen) Snowden. On April 30, 1942, he married Mary Lee Tipkey, who preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 1993.
He served in the Army during World War II in Europe and North Africa, and earned the Purple Heart medal for wounds sustained in combat. He then worked for General Motors and retired after 20 years as a skilled grinder. He was an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his three children, Leanne Snowden of Suttons Bay, William (Linne) Snowden of Mount Pleasant, and Walter (Beverly) Snowden of Harrison; two siblings, Melvin Snowden and Catherine Rieker; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was also predeceased by his siblings, Blanche, Genivieve, Hubert and Andrew.
Burial was to be in the Covenanter Cemetery in Fremont, Ind. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
