The Michigan Wildlife Conservancy will present wetland conservation forums in Traverse City and Bingham Township next week.
The forums will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 9, at the Traverse Area District Library; and Wednesday, April 30 in Bingham Township at the Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Station.
There will be no pre-registration or cost to attend. Topics covered will include a history of wetland loss in Michigan, the values of wetlands, water control in drainage systems, wetland enhancement opportunities, wetland conservation with farm bill programs, and establishment of special microhabits in existing or restored wetlands.
Local partners that are co-sponsoring the forums include the Conservation Resource Alliance, Leelanau Conservancy, Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, Benzie Fishery Coalition, Grass River Natural Area, and the Antrim, Benzie, Kalkaska, Grand Traverse and Leelanau conservation districts. Forums will also be held on May 1 in Benzie County, May 6 in Kalkaska County, and May 7 in Antrim County.
