Suttons Bay turned in an impressive performance in its biggest match of the young season by winning the Inland Lakes Bulldog Invitational Saturday at Indian River Golf Club.
The top four Norsemen combined to shoot a 322 to edge Charlevoix (328) at the invitational, which included 19 teams. Glen Lake shot a 356 to place seventh.
“It was a great win, and gave us a pretty good indication of who we might see in our regional later this spring,” said Norsemen coach Todd Hursey.
Norsemen junior Charlie Olson fired a 74, including a 1-under 35 on the back nine, to finish runner-up in the 95-player field. Teammate Max Evans was sixth overall with a 78, which also included a 35 on the final nine. Sam Foster was tired for eighth with an 82 and freshman Connor Loberg shot 88.
Glen Lake freshman Matt O’Brien shot a 5-over 77 to lead the Lakers, and joined Olson on the 10-player all-tournament team. Steve King (89), Austin Novak (94) and Nate Peplinski (94) were the other top scorers for the Lakers.
