Vacation of an easement parallel to M-22 behind the Northwood Home Center is being investigated after action last week by the Glen Arbor Township Board.
The board voted unanimously April 15 to authorize Supervisor John Soderholm to seek information about vacating an easement in connection with construction of the proposed public toilet/garden area at the site of the former firehall on Lake Street.
“This area is needed for a drainfield,” Clerk Bonnie L. Quick said.
Township inhabitants at the Annual Meeting March 29 supported developing the vacant lot into a garden area and public toilet facility. The cost of the project is estimated at $183,000, with some $143,000 coming from township coffers and the remainder from the community in the form of donations. Cherry Republic’s philanthropy committee has already pledged $5,000 toward the effort.
Meanwhile, township Treasurer Terry Gretzema is exploring other fundraising options.
In routine business at the monthly meeting, board members formally adopted its 2008-09 budget that was reviewed at a March public hearing as well as at the Annual Meeting. The plan calls for $402,278 in revenue, up 2.2 from 2007-08, and expenses of $359,616, down 3.6 percent. Also adopted was the township’s “general appropriation” resolutions, as well as a 1 percent tax administration fee that will be assessed on township property taxes.
The board also:
• Accepted a bid from Rehmann Robson for its annual audit at a cost of $14,000.
• Accepted the resignation of Ken Schlatter from the township Board of Review and appointed Fred Missad as his replacement.
• Appointed Linda Gretzema, Dottie Thompson and Annette Lewis as election inspectors for the May 6 election.
