A poem by a summer visitor entitled Suttons Bay Sunset took fourth place in a national poetry contest.
The piece was written by Brad Bedacht, a student at Summit Country Day School in Cincinnati and grandson of Jerry and Sandy Bedacht, Stony Point summer residents for the past 17 years.
“He loves spending part of his summer with us each year which I think is reflected in his poem,” grandfather Jerry Bedacht said.
Suttons Bay Sunset
Here I am, chillin’ like a three-toed in Suttons Bay
Almost slipping into unconsciousness due to boredom
At the money, life is like a mortar without its pestle.
I look outside and nature is begging me to paint her.
I awaken my paints and delineate her gorgeous sunset.
The sunlight dances off the deep dark
Blue water of Lake Michigan
The sun makes its final goodbyes and lays down behind the hill
My watercolor weakens my stern face into a smile.
Now I may dive into another project in life
I will present my masterpiece to the one
Who is this sunset to me.
