Leelanau family featured in 'Southern Living' magazine

A bag of older magazines held more than just information for the Lake Leelanau community last week.

THREE SISTERS from Lake Leelanau
and their parents and baby brother
appeared in Southern Living magazine
at Epcot Center in an article about
top family vacation venues. Pictured

the Beast are (from left) Lexi, Isabella
and Olivia Schaub, daughters of Chris
and Andrea Schaub of Lake Leelanau.

Carrie Mugerian was thumbing through the January issue of Southern Living when she recognized someone in a picture accompanying a story about the Reader’s Choice awards. Readers of the magazine named Disneyworld’s Epcot Center as its top family venue.

“It caught my eye because my daughters and I are going to Epcot in May,” said Mugerian, whose daughters are Ellie, 5 and Emily, 20.

Mugerian closed the magazine once and then opened it again to take another look.

“I said, ‘Hey, that’s Chris Schaub,’ and looked again and said, ‘And that’s Andrea’,” Mugerian said.

Indeed, it was Chris and Andrea Schaub of Lake Leelanau photographed during a trip to Epcot taken last summer with maternal grandparents Mike and Leona Scott of Comstock Park. Also photographed during a Princess Breakfast at the Norwegian pavilion were the Schaub’s daughters: Lexi, 7; Olivia, 5; Isabella, 2 and Christopher, 5 months with Disney characters Snow White, Cinderella, Mary Poppins, Mulan and Belle, from Beauty and the Beast.

“ I had forgotten all about it,” said Andrea of the encounter with Southern Living photographer Cary Jobe. “The girls were looking at the exhibit. They didn’t even care that she was there.”

The Schaubs had asked that the photographer let them know if and when the photo would appear. But heard nothing and forgot all about the pictures taken.

Now they have one more souvenir from a memorable family vacation.

“It was a fun, fun experience,” Andrea said.
