HAZARDOUS WASTE including paints, chemicals and old electronic devices from 110 Leelanau County households were recycled during a special county-wide collection on Saturday at the Maple City garage of the county Road Commission. Contractors from the downstate Drug & Lab Disposal company collected items from a Cleveland Township resident, above, who “opted-in” to the county’s recycling program by paying a voluntary $30 fee. In August, Cleveland Township voters will have the opportunity to approve an automatic $25 per household fee to help pay for the county’s recycling programs – a measure approved in most other Leelanau County townships nearly two years ago. Another Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Collection will be held May 17 at the county Road Commission garage in Suttons Bay. Those wishing to participate should contact the county Planning Department at 256-9812 to make a reservation.
