Several fundraising events have been planned to help pay for a trip to Maryland for two of Leelanau County's Odyssey of the Mind (OM) teams.

The two teams, consisting of 14 Leland Public School third through sixth graders, each took first place in their respective age divisions during the OM state finals held last month near Grand Rapids, and will advance to the OM World Finals to be held at the University of Maryland, May 30-June 1.

On Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., one of the teams will hold a bake sale in front of the Leland Mercantile in downtown Leland. Another team will hold a car wash at Hancock Field Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon.

A dinner to benefit both teams will be held at the Steak Haus restaurant at the King’s Challenge Golf Course in Cleveland Township on Thursday, May 15, from 5 to 8 p.m.
