Suttons Bay's boys' and girls' track team each posted second-place finishes in a cold four-way meet Tuesday afternoon at Benzie Central.

Benzie won the boys’ meet with 104 points, with Suttons Bay (63), Buckley (8) and T-C Christian (0) following.
Norse sprinters Eric Hernandez (11.83) and Nick Porritt (11.91) went one-two in the 100. The same duo made up half of the 400 and 800-meter relay teams, which also captured firsts with times of 47.85 and 1:40, respectively. Nalen Brockman and Damien Garces rounded out the relay teams.
Ben Wynsma won the 800 (2:09) and 3200 (10:37), and Porritt posted an individual second-place finish in the 200 in 24.62.
In field events, Brockman soared in the high jump with a 5’ 8” effort. He also was first in the discus (110’2”). Dwuan Anderson won the long jump with a jump of 18’4”.
Benzie took the girls’ competition with 95.5 points, while Suttons Bay earned 29.5 points and had three second-place finishes: Kyra Shively in the 100 in 14.19; Taylor Jolliffe in the high jump at 4’2”; and Angela Patterson in the discuss at 81’8”.
Suttons Bay also traveled to Mason County Central Friday to compete with larger schools, such as Traverse City Central and Ludington.
The boys’ team scored 31 points and was led by Wynsma, who posted the only first-place finish for the Norsemen with a personal-best time in the 800 meter of 2:05.09. Wynsma also was fourth in the 1600 (4:48.42) and sixth in the 3200 (10:53.73).
Anderson raised his personal best in the high jump to 5’9” for a fourth-place finish, and long jump of 19’5” for third place. Brockman was sixth in the high jump at 5’6” and threw the discus 111’4.5” to place fifth.
Porritt was sixth in the 100, and the 800 and 400 relays with Garces, Brockman and Hernandez.
Breanna Korson was the top finisher for the girls’ team with a second in the 3200 (12:51), a fourth in the 800 (2:35.97) and 1600 (5:49.11), and teamed with Lizzy Freed, Rory Price and Elizabeth Adams to finished third in the 3200 relay (10:59).
Caleigh Lennerth was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.04 and joined Freed, Gabrielle Kuznicki and Price in the 1600 relay to finish fifth (4:57). Lennerth also placed sixth in the 100 hurdles (19.01).
Suttons Bay’s 400 relay team of Lennerth, Kuznicki, Jolliffe and Shively finished fourth in 55.72. Jolliffe also medaled in the high jump with a sixth-place jump of 4’4” on a very windy day. Adams fied for fourth in the pole vault (6’6”) and Patterson threw the discus 92’1/2” for fifth place.
The girls’ scored 40.75 points.
The Norsemen traveled to Mesick April 23 for a three-way meet with the Bulldogs and Glen Lake.
“We used the opportunity to try some athletes in different than usual events,” coach Mark Smith said.
Wynsma won the 200 and 400 runs with times of 25.24 and 57.34, respectively. Anderson won the high jump and long jump with personal bests in both events. He also finished second in the 110 hurdles. Brockman won the 100 hurdles and was part of the winning 800-meter relay team with Porritt, Garces and Hernandez (1:40.7) Hernandez also took the 100 with an 11.97-second time.
Chris Schneider was another surprise, winning the 300 hurdles in the first-ever attempt (47.44) Mark Jasinski won the 3200 in 12:50.
Korson won the 400 and joined Lennerth, Kuznicki and Adams in the 1600 relay (4:46) for the only other girls first-place finish.
The Norse travel to Traverse City Central Friday for the Ken Bell Invitational and are off until the Garland Invitational May 8.
