D. Bruce Tremblay

1928-2008

Services were held last month in Ohio for longtime Lake Leelanau resident D. Bruce Tremblay who died March 11 in Traverse City. He was 79.

He was born in Racine, Wis., on Nov. 14, 1928, the son of Louis and Christine Tremblay. His wife of 56 years, Mary Alice (Gilmore) Tremblay, survives.

He earned an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton in 1950, served in the Army during the Korean War, and entered the federal civil service in 1955 working in the U.S. Air Force Aircraft Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He earned a masters degree from Ohio State University in 1969. He served as a consultant to NASA and as a technical liaison with the Korean National Air Force and several NATO members; and earned two Meritorioius Civilian Service Awards, among other honors, before retiring to Leelanau County.

Also surviving are his two children, Paula S. (James) Meyer and John D. Tremblay, both of Lake Leelanau; and four grandchildren.
