Ed. note: The Enterprise publishes “Catch a Rising Star” to recognize students who stand out among their peers academically, athletically, artistically or in in their attitudes. Students from Glen Lake, Lake Leelanau St. Mary, Leland, Northport, Suttons Bay and those living in Leelanau but attending Traverse City West High School will be featured. Catch a Rising Star is compiled by news editor Amy Hubbell and is published twice a month when school is in session.
Martin (Marty) Mugerian, a junior at St. Mary School, is this week’s “Rising Star.”
Mugerian, the son of Jeff and Carrie Mugerian of Bingham Township, was nominated by school/parish development director Jean LaCross.
“Marty is so mature and sincere. He has his head on straight and knows what the world is about,” LaCross said.
He is the second of four children. He has an older sister, Emily, 20; a younger brother in the eighth grade, Sean; and a younger sister in preschool, Ellie.
After graduation, Mugerian said he would like to pursue a career in medicine.
Hometown: Lake Leelanau.
Interests: Boxing, playing football, spending time with friends and family.
Favorite Class: Chemistry. “I enjoy chemistry a lot. It makes sense to me and it’s hands-on.” His chemistry teacher is Patty Dunbar.
Do you have a role model: “I don’t have a specific role model. I look up to my parents for inspiration because they’ve been so good to me.”
Favorite place to hang out: “At Van’s Beach (in Leland) with a couple of friends.”
Describe your perfect day: “I would be at the beach in the summer with friends and family just hanging out and having a good time.”
What’s the best book you’ve ever read: “I like the Harry Potter series. I also like Gary Paulson. He writes adventure books.”
Favorite musical group: “I like classic rock like AC/DC.”
