Omena News

Hope everyone was able to get their basements pumped out after last Friday night's rain. Wow! That was a nice light show.

Glad to see more snowbirds making their way home. A welcome back goes out to Ralph and Nancy Kalchik and Jerry and Nancy Kalchik. Also, Jack and Leah Dunn were up for the weekend and had a successful turkey hunt.

Last night was Senior Project Night at Northport Public School, and among the topics that were presented were “Obesity in America” by Amanda Luna. Amanda put on a spring dance to raise awareness of obesity in America. The money raised will go toward a water machine in the school’s fitness area. Also, Betsy Shiner will be in charge of the ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously) program. On May 7, all of NPS students get to participate at 10 a.m. under her guidance.

Northport School has an intramural program on Thursdays at 3:30-4:30 p.m. for high school students. Volleyball, floor hockey, flag football, softball, and lacrosse are just some of the games being played. Also, four girls (Octavia Buss, Emily Stowe, Shauna Sitatek and Kelly Fischer) from NPS are participating on the very successful Suttons Bay girls’ soccer team. Way to go, girls. For more information on good things going on at Northport Public School please visit the school’s website at www.northportps.org.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Bob Mosher, Lynn Spitznagel, David Kalchik and Adam Smart.
Don’t forget to support your local Sportsman’s Club by attending the annual Smelt Supper at the Leelanau Township firehall in Northport on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.

This week Victor and Albert were spotted at the Knot!

Enjoy your week.
