'Million Trees' project gets boost from 4-H club

A national effort to plant a million trees is 25 trees closer to its goal, thanks to the Northport 4-H Chess Club.

66-acre controlled burn planned at Port Oneida

Firefighters with Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, in coordination with crews with the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, will conduct a controlled burn on 66 acres in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District sometime this month.

Leland Dam gets stamp of approval

The Leland Dam Authority held what members expect will be its last meeting for a number of years.
Formed in 2004, the four-member authority board oversaw construction of a new dam to control water flowing out of Lake Leelanau and into Lake Michigan via the Leland River near Fishtown.
