Services will be held at a later date in Beaverton for Etta Jean Hughes of Traverse City who died May 5 at Tendercare of Traverse City. She was 76.

She was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Beaverton, the daughter of Curt and Fannie (Salyer) Elzay. On April 27, 1950, in Beaverton, she married Lawrence Hughes who died in 1987.

She and her husband raised their family in Detroit, and were active in the VFW and American Legion. Known for her sense of humor, she also had a beautiful singing voice and loved music.

She is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Bill Ayers) Hughes of Bingham Township; a son, Patrick (Helen) Hughes; several brothers and five grandchildren.

Burial was to be in Dale Cemetery, Beaverton. Memorials may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society, 1750 Ahlberg Rd., and/or the Northwest Michigan Alzheimers Association, 1040 Walnut St., both in Traverse City, MI 49686.
