The Empire Lions Club will stage Project Kidsight Saturday at the Empire Township hall.
Photos of preschool children ages 1 to 5 will be taken with a special camera that is being brought up from a downstate Lions Club and helps identify treatable eye problems, said club member Bill Freeman.
“It helps identify improperly aligned eyes, eyesight defects and even cataracts,” said Freeman.
Once the picture is “read” by an opthamologist, parents will be notified by mail if a problem was detected. Freeman said the test is endorsed by the Michigan Department of Community Health as well as major universities, eye institutes and optometric groups throughout the state.
The photos, which are offered free of charge by the Lions Club, will be taken from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
