Bob Lober’s long reign as executive director of the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association’s executive board has ended.

Lober, an Elmwood Township and the former longtime golf coach at Traverse City Central, stepped down from the post and was replaced by Hall of Fame coach Gregg Kirchen as the new executive director.

“Bob’s leadership will be greatly missed,” the MIGCA said in a statement of Lober, who held the post for 20 years. “The board thanks Bob for his expertise, dedication and vision throughout his tenure.”

A local mountain biking team, Pure Balance XC, had another strong showing in Sunday’s Michigan Mountain Biking Association’s Fort Custer Stampede.

Heather Jordan of Suttons Bay took third in sport women division (30-29), Jack Kline of Lake Ann took sixth in expert men (50 and over), and Chad Jordan finished 15th in expert men (30-39).

The team, sponsored by Pure Water Works and Body Balance of Suttons Bay, raced at the old Fort Custer military base, now the Fort Custer Recreation Area and State Park, in Augusta, Mich.

The team’s upcoming races include the Hanson Hills Challenge in Grayling June 1, and the Lumberjack 100, an ultra-endurance 100-mile race held at the Big M in Manistee on June 14.
