Wynsma, Gaudard take first at meet

Suttons Bay's Ben Wynsma and Colin Gaudard each posted first-place finishes in their events at the Lake City Invitational track meet Tuesday.

A sophomore distance runner, Wynsma completed the 3200 in 10:23. Gaudard, a senior, cleared the bar set at 11’6”, topping all others in the pole vault.

Freshman Dwuan Anderson placed third for the Norse boys’ in the long jump with a 19’4” effort.

In other action Tuesday, Suttons Bay’s girls’ team had a second-place finish by Kyra Shively, who ran the 100 in 14.08. Fourth-place finishes were added by Erin Sneed in the 400 (1:05.27), Caleigh Lennerth in the 300 hurdles, and Breanna Korson in the 3200 (13:04).

The Norse had a full complement of team members at the Garland Relays Thursday. Named for longtime coach and former athletic director Bruce Garland, the meet combines the top two finishers on each team to score as a relay.

Girls’ highlights include a second for Korson and Rory Price, who combined for a time of 25:52.59 in the 3200. Melissa Laredo and Jessica Wilson combined for 143’6” in the discus, good enough for second. Alyssa Korson and Arianna Guillen were second in the 400 meter (2:13.62). Alyssa Korson also had third-places with Shively in the 200 (59.26), and Lennerth in the 300 hurdles (1:45.55). In the high jump, Taylor Jolliffe and Kelsey Collins jumped a combined height of 8’10”. Meanwhile, Breanna Korson and Elizabeth Adams were third in pole vault (13’6”).

Boys’ highlights include a first place for Anderson and sophomore Sam Send, who combined for a long jump of 37’9.5”. Colin Gaudard and Travis Smith were second in pole vault (20’6”), and Anderson and senior Nalen Brockman were third in high jump (11’4”).

The 3200 relay team of Wynsma, Tom Pritz, Juan Reyes and Chris Schneider completed the 3200-meter relay in 9:06.53.

The Norse will be in Frankfort Saturday for a regional competition and in Kingsley next Wednesday for a Northwest Conference meet.
