The Glen Lake varsity girls' soccer squad split a pair of games in the last week, bringing their season record to 10-5 heading into the final game of the regular season.
Last Wednesday, May 14, the Lakers won at Forest Area, 2-1.
“We started strong, playing very well for the first 10 minutes of the game,” coach Dorne Yeager reported.
Sophomore Cassie Lee scored six minutes into the first half with an assist from senior Emily Hubbell.
“Then, we lost our rhythm,” Yeager said.
Forest Area scored midway through the first half to even the score. Then, sophomore Jordan Lewis put the Lakers ahead with a last-minute goal in the first half, assisted by Hubbell.
“We played a little better in the second half but never really got the rhythm back,” Yeager said.
On Monday, the Lakers lost a close game in overtime at Benzie, 1-0.
“We played well,” Yeager said. “The game could have gone either way. In the end, we made a few mistakes in a row that they were able to convert into a goal.”
The Lakers were to play their last regular game of the season against the T-C Central JV Black team this Wednesday, May 21, at home. Next Thursday, May 29, the team will play in Pentwater against Big Rapids Crossroads Academy in the District tournament.
