Stage Turner, a nonprofit arts organization based in Leelanau County, has named the winner of its inaugural Louise Klein Carpenter Short Fiction Contest.
Tove Danovich of Traverse City, who has been a writing student since 2004 at the Interlochen Arts Academy, won the award for her short story, A Building.
The award is named after Louise Klein Carpenter, a part-time Leland summer resident and former East Grand Rapids language teacher.
Danovich’s award winning story will be read at Stage Turner’s June 15 performance at the Old Art Building in Leland. Danovich will receive a cash prize of $250.
The short fiction contest is open to writers 16 years-old and older who are full-time or part-time residents of Leelanau or Grand Traverse counties. Contest guidelines for 2009 will be announced in the fall.
Now in its third year, Stage Turner presents staged readings of contemporary and classic short stories, presented by guest readers and visiting artists. For more information, visit www.stageturner.org online.
