Leonard A. Olson Sr.

1935-2008

A memorial service will be held at the Long Lake Friends Church in Grand Traverse County on Saturday, May 24, at 3 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2 p.m., for former Leelanau County resident Leonard A. Olson Sr., who died at his home in Las Vegas, Nev., on May 10. He was 72.

He was born on July 23, 1935, to the late Albert Olson of Suttons Bay and Henrietta (Walters) Olson who survives. On Oct. 13, 1956, he married the former Phyllis McMachen of Northport, who survives.

Known as a hard worker, he was a truck driver and was honored for being accident free for one million miles in 1974. Most recently, he worked as a diesel mechanic in Las Vegas.

Also surviving are his two sons, Leonard Jr. from Shelbyville and Edward from Traverse City; a daughter, Darlene (Robert) Revnell of Traverse City; three brothers, Ernie (Barbara) of Middleville, Harold (Kathy) of Traverse City and Gerald Olson of Lake Ann; a sister, Delores Olson of Traverse City; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be held at the Linwood Cemetery and a pot luck meal will be served afterwards at the Long Lake Friends Church.
