The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) artist-in-residence program is hosting a presentation tonight by the second in a series of 10 acclaimed artists staying in the county through the program this year.
Matthew Ballou, a painter and draftsman, will give a public presentation at 7:30 tonight, May 29, at the GAAA, located at 6000 Pine St. in Glen Arbor.
Ballou earned his bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Chicago Art Institute and a master’s degree in the same field from Indiana University. He is now a visiting assistant professor of painting and drawing at the University of Missouri.
While in Glen Arbor he is developing a series of drawings incorporating the unique qualities of light and land in this area, and to explore how a sense of place affects portraiture.
The purpose of GAAA's residency program is to give artists a respite from daily responsibilities for a few uninterrupted weeks of artistic
concentration.
