Leelanau Twp. zoning plans supported

The Leelanau County Planning Commission reviewed and recommended approval of two zoning ordinance text amendments for Leelanau Township this week.

At their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening, county planners reviewed an amendment outlining requirements for Planned Unit Developments in Leelanau Township as well as a series of “housekeeping” amendments outlining administration, permit and appeals requirements under township zoning.

Senior planner Kristin Smith of the county Planning and Community Development Department reported that commission members heard reports from staff members on the proposed changes, added some comments of their own, then decided to return the proposed changes to Leelanau Township along with the county’s reports and comments, recommending approval.

The Leelanau Township Planning Commission will likely accept the county’s input at its next meeting, June 12.

In other business this week, the Leelanau County Planning Commssion:

• Heard a report from its Parks & Recreation Committee. A public hearing will be held Wednesday, June 4, at 7 p.m. in the Government Center in Suttons Bay Township, on an updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan for the county.

• Heard a report on the Grand Vision workshop held earlier this month in Suttons Bay and overall progress being made on the regional land use and transportation study.
