Boy Scout Troop 131 held a Court of Honors last week, advancing a number of boys in rank and awarding merit badges.
Quintin Brown, Jacob Grant, Fred Hall, Ryan Paterson, Andy Sleder and Nate Schwartz all earned the Basic rank, the first step along the trail to Eagle Scout.
Colin Platts received his Tenderfoot rank, and Nathaniel Carlson finished his Second Class rank. Joel Kurek earned the Star rank, two ranks away from Eagle. Dominic Grant earned Life Scout rank, the last rank before Eagle.
Ben Bakker earned his second Eagle Palm, signifying that he has earned at least 25 badges more than he needed for his Eagle rank and that he has been active for at least three months since earning his last palm.
Also at the event, scoutmaster Bill Queen, who is retiring from the position, was recognized for his service with a plaque.
Recently, the troop hosted a spring Camporee, participated in a flag raising ceremony at the dedication of the new Government Center in Suttons Bay Township, and helped with the Memorial Day ceremony in Northport. The troop plans to go camping on one of the Manitou islands in the near future.
Any boy who is at least 11 years old, has completed fifth grade, or has earned the Arrow of Light award is welcome to join the troop. The troop meets at Keswick Church south of Suttons Bay on Tuesday evenings during the school year. Anyone seeking more information may call 271-6921.
