The Zonta Club of Leelanau County has awarded three scholarships to Leelanau County students.
Glen Lake graduating seniors Emma Cook and Emily Hubbell were awarded $1,000 and $500 scholarships, respectively, as part of Zonta’s “Young Women in Public Affairs” award. The scholarship was established to encourage young women to enter careers or to seek leadership positions in social policy-making, government or volunteer community service.
Cook has been active in the Big Pals mentor program, Youth Action Council and Students for World Awareness. She will attend the University of Vermont this fall.
Hubbell represented the Suttons Bay-Leelanau County Rotary Club at the three-day Life Leadership Conference, was captain of the Glen Lake girls’ soccer team, and worked as a volunteer for Special Olympics. She will attend the University of Michigan this fall.
Kristine Bush, a sophomore at Glen Lake, received Zonta’s “Young Women in Science, Inland Seas” scholarship. She will join other young women sponsored by Zonta clubs throughout the state June 17-18 aboard the schoolship Inland Seas to study the aquatic environment of Grand Traverse Bay.
