A Masonic graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, June 20, at Beechwood Cemetery, for Donald Huston Thompson of Leland who died June 5 at Munson Medical Center. He was 73.
He was born on June 14, 1934, in Dayton, Ohio, to Herbert and Vera Thompson. On May 13, 1961, in Leland, he married Mary Jane Roth, who survives.
He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was past master and former chaplain of the Northport Masonic Lodge and a member of the Traverse City Chapter Royal Arch Masons. He was a life member of Eastern Star, Traverse City Commandery #41 Knights Templar, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cadillac, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City. He served in the Marine Corps, and was the owner of Thompson Realty. He enjoyed helping others, ringing the Salvation Army bell at Christmas time, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Also surviving are his daughter, Janet (Elmer) Bardenhagen of Maple City; his children from a previous marriage, Michael (Betty) Thompson of Florida, Mark (Sheri) Thompson of Ohio, Jeff Thompson of Ohio, and Michelle Thompson Roberts of Alaska; a brother, the Rev. Edgar (Roberta) Thompson; a sister, Marcia Thompson; and seven grandchildren.
