Northport marina gets wirless acces boost

Wireless Internet access will be improved for boaters in G. Marsten Dame Marina in Northport following action taken last week by the Northport Village Council.

Council members voted 6-0 Thursday, June 19, with Trustee Steve Mattson absent, to spend up to $3,355 for installation and configuration of wireless Internet equipment at the marina. Service is through Charter Communications.

The first company that provided Internet service at the marina went out of business. Ultimately, the village took over the service. However, the equipment in use is outdated, Trustee Steve Wetherbee said.

“The money will be used to replace the equipment to provide a more robust signal to those using it,” he said.

The service will be offered free of charge to marina boaters through the village.

In other business during the regular meeting, council members approved a request from Nancy Harper to split one 3-acre lot off North Shore Drive into two lots of approximately 1.5 acres each. The back lot (parcel I) would have a 20-foot ingress/egress and utility easement located on the north end of the other new parcel. Both have existing structures. The property was previously owned by the late Edna Dame, a longtime Northport teacher.

The request was approved contingent upon a completed survey showing utility easements filed with the Register of Deeds.

Also approved by the council was a request from Karl Wizinsky to create two 75-by-100-foot lots from three existing 50-by-100-foot lots located on W. Sixth Street.

This action was also contingent upon a survey and filing with the county Register of Deeds.
