Harold and Wyn Landis from Tamarac, Fla., send their thanks to Omena residents for their welcoming visit last month. Harold's parents had owned the Omena Inn, and Harold and Wyn performed there for many summers. This was their first time back since 1955, and they gave a performance at the Omena Historical Society.

Former Omena resident Dick Johnstone died Jan. 28. Dick and his wife Ginny owned Sunset Lodge from 1978 until 1996. Our sympathies go to Ginny and her family.

Omena has several residents in the limelight. Lauren Browning had a walk-on part in the movie being filmed in Frankfort. Cammie Buehler is acknowledged in Mario Batali’s new cookbook, The Italian Grill, for assisting with the food prep for the photography last summer.

The Omena Historical Society’s annual “Walk Down Memory Lane” is July 15 at 10 a.m. Reservations for the bus tour of historic Omena sites need to be made by June 28. Please call Kathy Miller at 386-5228, or Ed Oberndorf at 386-5255. The Omena Village Preservation Association (OVPA) is having its annual Antique, Garage and Book Sale on July 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Barth House. Donations may be dropped off in the red barn at Kathy Bosco’s.

Helen Putnam was in Portland, Ore., for her high school reunion last weekend. Her brothers, Bill and John, arrive June 27 to visit Helen and her mother, Frieda, for a week. Bill lives in Denver, and John is coming from Colorado Springs, where he is a department head at the Air Force Academy. Frieda invites family and friends to drop in and see them while they are here.

Bob and Karen Gelakoski are up for the summer from Tampa, Fla. They are the proud new grandparents of Noah David Compton, son of Andrea and Dave Compton from Jacksonville. Gail and Jim Davis are here with their son, Jason, and daughter, Courtney Shannon and her two children, Brynn and Aidan. Judy and Bruce Balas were guests of their daughter, Allison, and granddaughters, Isabella, 7, and Alex, 5, at a recent Beach Bums game. Isabella and Alex moved to Traverse City from Australia last year, and this was their first baseball game.

Rosemary Centner has arrived for the summer. Margie Lyon is up from Cincinnati for the summer. Bill and Marilyn Graf have also arrived from Cincinnati.

There are reports of a new resident in Omena. Rumor has it that he wears a fur coat even in the summer, and seems to like the area bird feeders.

Happy birthday to Jesse Fox, Dusty MacDonald, and Dana Colling. Happy anniversary to Jim and Kathy Browning, Rink and Karon Smith, and Dave and Jacquie Johnson.

See you at Martha’s next week.
