The local flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a free, voluntary Vessel Safety Check (VSC) for local boaters at the Suttons Bay Village Marina between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday.
The VSC helps boaters determine whether their vessels comply with federal and state boating requirements. Upon successful completion of the check, a VSC emblem is awarded for display on the vessel.
The check can enhance safety and help boaters avoid potential warnings or fines if their boats are boarded by law enforcement officials, according to Rick Bowman of Suttons Bay, a volunteer member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s local Twin Bay Flotilla.
Boaters may also trailer their vessels to the marina for the safety check. The free checks will be conducted on a first come - first served basis.
